Barbara passed away at the Tewksbury Hospital, Easter Sunday morning, March 27, 2016. She was 84 years of age. Born in Salem, she is the daughter of the late George and Helen (Justason) Baker. Barbara attended Chelsea Public Schools and graduated from Chelsea High School, Class of 1949. After high school, Barbara attended the Chelsea Memorial Hospital School of Nursing to become a registered nurse. Throughout her nursing career, Barbara worked at the Grover Manor Hospital in Revere, the Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett, H.K. Porter in Somerville and the Shattuck Hospital in Jamaica Plain. She retired from nursing in 1995 after dedicating over 40 years to helping people in medical need. Barbara was a late resident of the City of Saugus for 48 years, where she took care of her home and family. She was active in the East Saugus United Methodist Church.

Barbara is the wife of the late Clarence F. Penney. Together they shared 46 years of marriage before his death in 1999. She is the beloved mother of Donna L. Bean, Wayne D. Penney, both of Saugus and the late Steven F. Penney. Sister of the late Leona Young. Also lovingly survived by 4 grandchildren, Chrissi Penney of MI, Janet Gallant and her husband Matthew of NH, Natalie Vinard and her husband Christopher "Chris" of Lynn, Jacquelyn Bean - Earner and her husband Michael of ME, and 6 great grandchildren, Ashlyn Gallant, Brenna Gallant, both of NH, Lili, Cadan, Finly and Abrie Earner of ME.
