Obituary

Cathy entered into eternal rest, Friday morning, August 29, 2025 at the Queen Anne Nursing Home in Hingham, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.  She was 80 years of age.  Born and raised in Cambridge, Cathy was the daughter of the late John J. and Ann L. (Cain) O'Connell.  She attended school in Cambridge and graduated high school from Cambridge High and Latin School.  Cathy married her beloved husband, Pasquale "Pat" Farinella in 1969.  They were married for 56 years, and their marriage was truly the epitome of love and devotion, through sickness and health.  After residing in Medford for a few years, Cathy and Pat settled in Revere, where they raised their family.  Cathy was a loving and devoted homemaker and mother for most of her life, caring for her home, her husband and her two children.  Later in life she worked outside of the home at various jobs and then eventually retired in 2002 as a clerk for the MA Department of Employment and Training after 10 years of service.  After 47 years of living in Revere, Cathy and Pat moved to Marshfield, where they have been residing for the past 4 years.  Cathy's most cherished moments in life were spent with her family.  She never missed a moment to be with her children, their spouses and her grandchildren.  She dearly loved all her 10 siblings, nieces and nephews and cherished every chance she could spend with them.  With 9 brothers (and 1 very beloved sister), Cathy sure knew how to take a joke.  Dancing to the "Oldies" was one of her favorite activities and with such a large family was able to do so often at weddings and other joyous occasions.  She was always one of the first on the dance floor!  Cathy will be forever missed by all who loved her.

Cathy was the devoted wife of Pasquale M. "Pat" Farinella, with whom she shared 56 years of marriage.  Beloved mother of Pasquale M. Farinella, Jr. and his wife Michelle McCormack of Wakefield, Joanne Catherine McCall and her husband Jason of Marshfield.  Dear sister of Harold O'Connell, Roberta Ricci and her husband Paul, James O'Connell and his wife Margaret, Dennis O'Connell and his wife Rose, Stephen O'Connell and his wife Mary and the late John O'Connell, Daniel O'Connell and his wife Margaret, Arthur O'Connell, Gerald O'Connell and his wife Nancy, Robert O'Connell.  Surviving in-laws of Barbara O'Connell, Grace O'Connell, Marnie O'Connell, Anthony "Tony" Greco, Rosalyn Long, Elayne Farinella and the late in-laws Marie O'Connell, Marguerite Greco and Domenic Farinella.

Cathy is also lovingly survived by 3 grandchildren, Michael McCormack, Owen McCall and Caitlin McCall and numerous nieces and nephews.
