Obituary

Joan Francis (Borstel) Bocchino 89, of Chelsea, Ma, formerly of Somerville/Revere, passed away peacefully on February 19th at Whidden Hospital after a long illness.  She was the daughter of the late Angelina (Capuccio) and Charles S. Borstel. Devoted mother of Frank Bocchino and daughter-in-law Maria of East Boston, Teresa A. (Bocchino) Linde of Bridgewater and Susan Hanley of Indiana.

Joan is survived by her sister Patricia Miller of Malden and late husband Robert D. Miller and is preceded in death by her loving brother Charles (Bud) Borstel who was very fond of her.

Joan loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren, with lots of trips to parks in the area to many home-based musical events to arts and crafts. Loving grandchildren: Steven Owens, Marissa Owens and fiancé Eddie, Christina Gibson and husband Eric, Frank Bocchino and wife Stephanie. Treasured great grandchildren: Jackson Owens, Eric and Anthony Gibson.

She was a resident of Captains Row for over 25 years and leaves dear friends Chris Kenney & Joan Northway, along with many friends at her residence. Joan was very active in her building as the parking representative and participated in many other administrative activities.

Joan loved playing cards and having her nephews, cousins and friends come over to play almost every week where she lived in Somerville; with fond memories, Robert D'Amelio and wife Kate, Steven Capuccio and wife Patti, Maryann D'Amelio and husband Andy, Barbara White and late husband Doug, Donald Capuccio and wife Jill, Robert J. Miller and wife Zita, Janie Ruddock and husband Tommy, Charles Borstel and wife Angela, Sean Borstel and wife Lisa and Rose Richards, Raymond Taurasi and Janet Standish.

Joan loved to send cards to her family and friends and always remembered birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions. She was fond of stickers with hearts, butterflies and bees, flowers and sayings that meant so much to us on each envelope she would send.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Whidden Hospital, especially Dr. Kim and her part time nursing staff that came to her home three times a week to care for her, especially Sony.
