Laurent passed away Thursday, April 26, 2018 at the Chelsea Soldier's Home. He was 92 years of age.  Born in Worcester, he is the son of the late Charles and Yvonne (DeCelles) LaPlante.  After graduating high school, Laurent enlisted in the US Marine Corps on December 20, 1943.  Pvt. LaPlante was a demolitions specialist during WWII.  He participated in action against the enemy at Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands and he participated in the occupations of Japan and China.  He was honorably discharged on June 13, 1946, receiving the WWII Victory Medal, Navy Occupation-Japan, Asiatic-Pacific with 1c, and the National Defense Service Medal.  Laurent reenlisted in the service on October 13, 1950 and served during the Korean War.  He was honorably discharged at Quantico, Va as SSGT.  Laurent enjoyed the peace and solitude of reading.  He worked as a librarian for the towns of Framingham and Wayland.  In 1994 Laurent moved to the Chelsea Soldiers Home, where he kept busy by reading and running the library.

Laurent is predeceased by his wife, Helen (Regan) LaPante and his son. He is the beloved father of Michele LaPlante of Arizona.

FUNERAL ARRANGMENTS:  Relatives and friends are most kindly invited to gather and visit at St. Michael Archangel Chapel at the Chelsea Soldier's Home 91 Crest Ave. on Wednesday, May 2 from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M.  Services will conclude with a 1:45 P.M. Interment at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
