Obituary

Dick passed away Thursday afternoon, April 21, 2016 at the Oxford Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center in Haverhill. He was 77 years of age. Born in Winthrop, he is the son of the late James A. and Alice (Neri) Deleidi. Richard grew up in Chelsea and attended Chelsea Public Schools. He was a dedicated, hard working young man, which began when he was just 10 years old. He had a paper route and also worked as a pony boy, delivering ice cream throughout the community, all to help his family. As he got older he worked at the Nautical on Revere Beach, setting bowling pins in the alley lanes. Before his 18th birthday, Richard enlisted in the US Army. As a Private, he was in the 82nd Airborne Infantry Division during the Korean Conflict. After returning home from the service, Dick married his beloved Joan M. (Fitzgerald) Deleidi. Together they have shared 52 years of marriage. In 1964, Richard was very proud to open his own restaurant and bar on Washington Avenue in Chelsea. He was the owner and operator of the former Dick's Cafe for 35 years. In 1975, Richard and his family moved from Chelsea to Danvers, where he has been a resident for 41 years. Dick enjoyed his retirement by spending time with his family, grandchildren and his dogs. He enjoyed rides on his motorcycle and fishing with friends on Martins Pond in North Reading. He especially looked forward to his vacation in Aruba every year. Aruba was a home away from home for Dick and Joan, as they have vacationed there every year for the last 10 years. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Dick is the devoted father of Denise Drew and her husband Mark and James R. Deleidi, all of Danvers. Dear brother of Arthur Deleidi of Chelsea. Also lovingly survived by 7 grandchildren, Joseph, Zachary, Alicia, Nicole Deleidi, Nicholas, Ryan, Justin Drew and many nieces and nephews.
